Golden Spike National Historic Site

Since 1957 Promontory Summit has been preserved as part of the Golden Spike National Historic Site administered by the National Park Service.

May 10, 1869: Two railroad companies - Union Pacific and Central Pacific - joined 1,776 miles of rail at Promontory Summit, Utah Territory. This event sparked unforetold consequences still reflected in our great nation today.

Admission:
ENTRANCE FEES ~ Private, noncommercial vehicle
Vehicle: $5.00 (winter) / $7.00(summer) - 7 Days Fee is good for all persons riding in a private, noncommercial vehicle.
Individual: $3.00(winter)/$4.00(summer) - 7 Days Admits one individual when entering by bicycle or motorcycle.
Passes: Golden Spike Annual and all National Park and Federal Recreational Lands Passes accepted and available for purchase. Golden Age and Golden Access Passes honored. Identification required.

Hours:
Golden Spike is in the MOUNTAIN time zone and does change to daylight savings time.

Visitor Center hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. Closed New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas. Outside attractions are open during daylight hours. Please call (435) 471-2209 ext. 29 for latest information.

Things to see:
Reenactments: of the Golden Spike ceremony are held on Saturdays and holidays between May and October at 11:00 and 1:00, at trackside in front of the locomotives, the same location where the original ceremony was held over 130 years ago on May 10, 1869.

Films to Watch: There are five entertaining and informative films shown regularly at the park. They range from silent films to cartoons; there is something for everyone. During busy times the movies are shown on a schedule, but most of the time we allow visitors to make requests so they can watch the film they are most interested in.

Directions to Golden Spike Historic Site:
Northbound on I-15: exit #365, turn right (west) on Hwy. 13 to Hwy. 83. Follow signs to Golden Spike. (32 miles)

Southbound on I-15: exit I-84 west to exit #40 (Hwy. 102). Turn left and follow signs to Hwy. 83. Turn right on 83 and follow signs to Golden Spike. (Approximately 29 miles)

Eastbound on I-84: exit #26, south on Hwy. 83 past Thiokol Rocket Park, turn right at sign to Golden Spike. (Approximately 27 miles)

Westbound from Logan: Hwy. 30 west to I-15, then follow directions for Southbound on I-15. (Approximately 50 miles)
