Joseph Smith Memorial Building on Temple Square

Admission: free
Hours: Sun - Sat, 9:00a.m. - 9:00p.m.

The Joseph Smith Memorial Building, formerly the Hotel Utah, was built in 1911. This stately building was completely renovated and reopened in 1993. It is named in honor of the man who was instrumental in restoring the gospel of Jesus Christ, translating the Book of Mormon, and organizing The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

For beginners interested in exploring their family history, the FamilySearch Center is housed here. There are public restaurants located in the building. Meeting, banquet and wedding facilities are also available throughout the building.

You are invited to take a tour of this beautiful building. You can also view the free film, Joseph Smith The Prophet of the Restoration, in the building's Legacy Theater. This film lasts approximately 70 minutes and depicts the life and legacy of Joseph Smith, founding prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Click here for dates and show times.
